The Veil Was Torn

Mike Patz Apr 22, 2025

Have you ever been separated from someone you loved? Before sin entered the Garden of Eden, it was full of peace, joy, love, justice- everything that was right in the world. When Adam and God were together there, all was shalom, a perfect place. Our souls were made for an intimacy with God, and that can only come by coming close.

Pastor Mike Patz shares Matthew 27:45-51, in our Easter sermon, The Veil Was Torn. The temple in Jerusalem had been built by Herod the Great, and it was over 80 feet tall. In the center of the Temple was the Holy of Holies, the place where heaven and earth came together. In it was the only place where God and humans could meet! But there were barriers to His presence, a veil that was more than a fabric. It represented the message of a human problem- separation. No matter how hard you tried, access past the veil to God was denied.

So when the crucifixion, the death of Jesus, the perfect Lamb, was complete, this temple veil was torn, from top to bottom, and the space between God and man was forever removed. The veil said access denied because of our sin; the torn veil says access granted forever. But you have to choose to come!
