A New Way to Love – The Power of Agape

Mike Patz Feb 9, 2026

In his Nobel Peace Prize speech, Martin Luther King said, “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality.” If I don’t have love, I gain nothing.

As Pastor Mike Patz continues our series, The More Excellent Way, we are learning how to do relationships the right way, looking at 1 Corinthians 13. Love is not proven when it’s easy, it’s revealed when it’s hard.

These words of Paul are almost like a song, poetic in their telling. Love is not a problem that we solve, it’s a reality to behold. God is seeking to create a new people, who see the beauty of God’s love and live it out. We have eros love, and phileo love, yet the agape love of God is the highest, and if you get it right everything else makes sense.

Looking unto Jesus, and following Him demands that we live and love in the agape way. It is extravagant, enemy-loving, cross-shaped, and self-giving. It’s good news for us ordinary people as we live in this time, that we may rise up and love well.
