The Struggle of Submission
The wages of sin is death, and those sins have us living in a very broken world. As we are in the world today, we are very aware of the results of sin that result in the abuse of power.
In the Gospel According to David series, Pastor Mike Patz continues the story found in 1 Samuel 24. King Saul is a power-abuser, and we find David hiding from him in a cave in Engedi.
The question we must ask ourselves is, “What do I do when I come in contact with someone who has hurt me most deeply?” We can’t just deconstruct Saul! It’s not enough to hate Saul, we have to decide what we are going to do when the power is in our hands. The man after God’s own heart does not take justice in his own hands. He is submitted to the ways of God in true meekness. The test of kingdom authority is not how you rule when you’re in charge, but how you submit when you’re not. God’s kingdom is not built on abuse or rebellion, but by submission to His authority and His timing.
