The Mountain & The Mediator

Oscar Roche Mar 23, 2026

Mountains have a way of capturing us. The majesty of the snow-capped peaks can be intimidating, causing us to take care in approaching the beauty. We become so small in their proximity. Even more so, being in the awesome presence of God must demand a reverential fear.

As we continue our series, Lent: It’s not about earning… it’s about remembering, Pastor Oscar Roche opens the story of Moses receiving the law on the mountain with God in Exodus 20:18-21.

What would happen if the holiness of God would actually fill the room we’re in? His presence is overpowering, and would cause us to bow low before Him. The law reveals God’s holiness and exposes our inability to approach Him on our own.

Once you realize that you can’t approach a holy God in your sinful condition, the fear of the Lord will come to us. Then we can run into Him and run from the sin that keeps us from Him. The righteousness that God requires is the righteousness God provides, in Jesus Christ. And in His presence is the Shalom we need.
