How to Not Worry
We continue our School of Jesus series, looking at the Sermon on the Mount verse by verse. In this message, Pastor Mike Patz unpacks Matthew 6:25-36. Jesus commanded, “Do not worry…” but that is much easier said than done! The truth is, our brain does not process worry very well. When you worry, you import negative plasticity into your brain. This affects the prefrontal cortex, causing increasingly destructive effects on our bodies, including a shorter life span. So when you worry, your troubles double! And if you’ve ever tried to not worry, you know how difficult that is! Jesus uses one word that is the key: the “kingdom” is here. Righteousness, peace and joy are the nature of His kingdom. Worry cuts you off from experiencing the kingdom of heaven right now, and is a sign that you’re living in the wrong kingdom! When trials come, they are triggers to start seeking Him. Look, and rejoice, for the kingdom of God is at hand! It’s time to import the realities of heaven and allow Him to direct your life. If you follow Jesus, He will teach you how to do things His way. Remember your value! Jesus paid the ultimate price for you. Begin to be about the one thing, living His way! He is the one who gives exceedingly more than you can ask or think! Who is the King of your story? Worry tells your story without the hero. Our King is known as the Prince of Peace. So don’t worry… start seeking!
