How To Pray for
Missionaries & People Groups
Twelve Kingdom Prayers
Twelve
Kingdom Prayers
David Wells describes petitionary prayer as rebellion against the status quo – against the state of the world in its sin and fallenness. We are committed not only to sending resources and people to the mission field, but also to being a house of prayer for missionaries, nations, and those still unreached by the Gospel.
Specific prayers get specific answers, and the best way to have prayers answered is to pray what God wills for us to pray. For this we look to the Bible. What follows is a scripture-led guide created by Live Dead that has helped fuel our prayers for specific people groups and missionaries.
See our the full list of Greenhouse Missionary Partners or see a list of global people to pray for.
One
For laborers
Jesus told us to pray that the Lord would raise up laborers (hard workers) for the harvest fields. Pray that God would raise up missionaries from all over the world to plant or strengthen the church together among a specific people group (Matt 9:37-38).
Two
For the conviction of sin
A person is saved only through the knowledge of his sinful state and subsequent repentance and turning to Jesus. Pray that a specific people group would feel and know the burden of sin and come to Jesus for forgiveness and salvation (Matt. 11:28-30).
Three
For the cross to be unveiled
False religions and deceptive ideologies have blinded men and women throughout the world to the truths of the gospel. Please pray that God would unveil the cross and would remove the veil on the minds and spirits of a specific people group (2 Cor. 3:16-17).
Four
For faith and against fear
The Bible says that God has given His followers a spirit of power. Pray that believers among a specific missionary or people group would be set free from a spirit of fear and would boldly proclaim the truth of the gospel (2 Tim. 1:6-8).
Five
For the Word of God to rise
God’s Word is so much more powerful than anything people can say; it’s a mighty lion that needs to be unleashed. Please pray for the Word of God (in written, oral, musical, and dramatic forms) to be translated and to rise among a specific people group (Isa. 55:10-11).
Six
That the Spirit will be poured out on all flesh
God promises to pour out His Spirit on all flesh, men and women, young and old, rich and poor. Please pray that God would pour out His Spirit on a specific people group, that they would see dreams and visions of Jesus, and that they would be powerfully saved and empowered to be His witnesses (Joel 2:28-32).
Seven
That Jesus would unite the body of Christ
Jesus wants His followers to be one. Please pray that God would unite the body of Christ. Pray that Christians from around the world would work together to reach a specific people group and that the specific people group would be joined to the body of Christ (John 17:20-23).
Eight
For good soil
Pray that the hearts of a specific people group would be like good soil, ready to hear the gospel and respond (Matt. 7:1-8, 18-23).
Nine
For peace
The Bible tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Ps. 122:6) and to pray for all people (1 Tim 2:1-4). Pray that a specific missionary or people group would experience peace not only in their nation but also in their hearts. Pray for the peace that results when men and women reconcile with God (John 14:27). Pray for men and women of peace among a specific missionary or people group.
Ten
For bold proclamation
Pray that believers among a specific missionary or people group would proclaim the message of the Gospel clearly, making the most of every opportunity God places before them (Col. 4:2-5).
Eleven
Against works-based salvation and legalism
Pray that a specific missionary or people group will understand that hope for forgiveness and acceptance with God is available only through Jesus’ work on the cross (1 Cor. 1:18).
Twelve
For joy in persecution
Church history tells us that the church grows the most when persecution is present. Pray that the believers among a specific missionary or people group would endure in a Christ-like manner and will give their lives for the sake of the gospel if necessary (1 Peter 2:21-23).
